Description

Personalized Metal Lake House Entrance Sign

A personalized lake house entrance sign that greets everyone at the gate, a metal sign that looks like aged wood, carrying your family or property name, the year you established your place, and your lake. Graphically printed on weatherproof 6mm DIBOND aluminum composite, made to order, and shipped free across the USA and Canada in about 2 to 3.5 weeks.

The sample reads Greiling & Bearson's Getaway, Established 1999, North Long Lake, Minnesota, with a buck standing among the pines above the water. Yours is built around your own words and your own lake. From the road it reads like a plank of carved walnut, warm and settled in, the kind of marker that tells a first-time visitor they found the right gap in the trees. What it is not is wood. There is nothing to cup, rot, or repaint, because the wood grain and the lettering are graphically printed, not routed and not engraved.

✔ North-woods artwork such as a buck and pines over the water, or your own graphic

Is it really metal if it looks like wood? Yes. It is 6mm DIBOND aluminum composite, graphically printed to look like an aged wood-grain plank. There is no engraving, embossing, or raised lettering, and it is not wood, so it will not rot, split, cup, or need repainting.

Will it hold up outside all year at the lake? Aluminum composite does not warp or soak up water, so freeze and thaw cycles, snow, and lake spray are not a problem, and salty sea air is not a problem either. The panel runs about 10 to 15 years outdoors and the UV-printed graphics hold about 5 to 10 years depending on sun exposure.

Can it double as an address sign? Yes. Add your house number and it works as an address marker at a long or wooded driveway, so guests stop at the right entrance. Mount it between two posts, on a gate frame, or on a porch wall.

NOTE: Measure your space carefully with a tape measure. We are not responsible for the wrong size ordered. Use our size guide here.

*Our design features a flat printed image, without any beveling, embossing, engraving, or raised letters. It looks routed and carved, but it is a flat print and it is not wood.

Personalized Metal Lake House Entrance Sign | Custom Wood Look Lake Cabin Sign

What Is a Lake House Entrance Sign?

A lake house entrance sign is a large outdoor panel that names a waterfront property at the point people arrive. It carries a family or property name, often an established year, and the name of the lake. Set between two posts at the head of the drive, on a gate frame, or on the wall beside the door, it tells a first-time visitor they have found the right gap in the trees. Traditional lake and cabin signs were routed into wood, which looks right for a few seasons and then needs sanding and resealing. A modern lake house sign is printed on weatherproof panel material that holds its finish without any of that.

Materials That Belong Outdoors

Tailor Made Rooms produces each panel on 6mm DIBOND aluminum composite, a rigid lightweight sheet bonded with two aluminum skins around a solid polymer core. It is the same material used in airport wayfinding, outdoor advertising, and highway signage. It does not rust, rot, warp, or splinter. UV stable inks hold color through years of sun, snow, and lake spray. Salty sea air is not a problem, so a shoreline or coastal property is no obstacle. There is no embossing, no raised lettering, and no engraved lettering. The artwork is graphically printed to look as if it has those effects.

Lake House Signs, Cabin Signs, and Property Name Signs: What Is the Difference?

Shoppers searching for lake house signs, cabin signs, lake property signs, and camp signs are describing the same category: a personalized outdoor panel that names a place on the water. At Tailor Made Rooms we treat the terms interchangeably because one panel does all of it. What changes is the wording and the artwork. A welcome line suits a sign on the porch wall. A property name with the lake underneath suits a sign at the entrance, because it is read from a moving vehicle by somebody who is not sure they are in the right place yet.

A Wood Look Without the Wood

The panel reads like a plank of aged walnut with the lettering carved into it. It is neither. The grain, the shadow inside the letters, and the routed edge are all graphically printed onto aluminum. That matters at a lake more than most places. Wood at the waterline takes on moisture, cups, splits along the grain, and grays out within a few seasons, and a routed sign has to come down to be refinished. This one stays where you put it. Nothing to rot, nothing to repaint, and the grain looks the same in year eight as it did on the day it went up.

Q1: What goes on a personalized lake house entrance sign?

Most customers use a family or property name on the main line, an established year, and the name of the lake with the state beneath it. Some add a lot number or a dock number instead of a street address, which is how many lake associations identify a place. Every word in the sample photograph is a placeholder, including the year. It reads Greiling and Bearson's Getaway, Established 1999, North Long Lake, Minnesota, and all of it is replaced with yours. The practical limit is legibility rather than software: the fewer words on the panel, the further away it can be read from the road.

Q2: What is a metal sign that looks like wood?

It is an aluminum panel printed with a wood grain image rather than cut from timber. Tailor Made Rooms prints onto 6mm DIBOND aluminum composite, so the grain, the color variation in the planks, and the shadow inside each letter are all part of a flat printed image. From a few feet away it reads as carved walnut or stained cedar. Up close you can see it is smooth, because there is no embossing, no raised lettering, and no engraved lettering. The point is to get the look of a routed wood sign without the wood, which at a lake means nothing to rot, split, cup, gray out, or refinish every few seasons.

Q3: Can I put an established year on the sign?

Yes, and it always becomes your year. The Established 1999 in the sample photograph is a placeholder, exactly like the names around it, and it is replaced with whatever you tell us when you order. Most customers use the year they bought the place, built the cabin, or the year the family first started coming up. The line is optional too, so if you would rather leave the year off entirely we set the layout without it.

Q4: Will it hold up outside all year at the lake?

Yes. Aluminum composite does not warp or absorb water, so freeze and thaw cycles, snow load, and lake spray do not bother it. Salty sea air is not a problem on a coastal property. The panel runs roughly 10 to 15 years outdoors and the printed graphics hold roughly 5 to 10 years depending on direct sun. Tailor Made Rooms will not tell you it lasts forever, because nothing printed does.

Q5: Does this work as a deer camp or hunting camp sign?

Yes. The buck standing among the pines above the water suits a deer camp, a hunting camp, or a north woods property just as well as a lake place, and the wording is yours, so Camp, Lodge, or Hunting Club can replace Getaway on the main line. If you want a design built around a deer rather than a property name, Tailor Made Rooms also makes dedicated deer camp and hunting lodge signs, which put the animal front and center instead of the name.

Q6: What size sign do I need at the end of a wooded drive?

Work backwards from where people will read it. A useful rule is about one inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance, so a property name read from 60 feet wants roughly 6 inch letters. Sizes run from 16 by 8 inches for a porch wall up to 90 by 45 inches for a two post entrance at the head of a drive. Measure the span between your posts before ordering.

Q7: Can it double as an address sign?

Yes. Add your house number, lot number or dock number alongside the property name and it works as an address marker at a long or wooded driveway, which matters when a delivery driver has never found the turn before. Guests stop at the right entrance and you stop giving directions over the phone.

Q8: Does a lake house sign make a good gift?

It is one of the better ones for somebody who has just closed on a cabin or finally named their place, because they cannot buy it for themselves without admitting the name is official. Ask quietly for the spelling of the lake and the year they bought it, then order one size up from what you think you need.

Q9: How do you mount a lake house sign?

It depends where it is going. At a driveway entrance the usual approach is to mount it between two 4x4 wood posts, or to hang it on chains from a crossbeam so it swings. On a building, a cabin wall, a porch or a boathouse, it mounts with stand-offs, which hold the panel slightly off the surface and give it a finished, floating look. The mounting options image in this listing shows the hardware. Measure the span between your posts before choosing a size.

Q10: Is this a decorative sign or a 911 emergency address marker?

It is a decorative lake house sign that can carry your address. Tailor Made Rooms makes these as property name signs, printed on aluminum, and they are not emergency markers. They are not certified reflective and they are not tested to any 911 or municipal visibility standard. If your county or lake association requires a reflective address marker at the road, keep that one where it is and let this sign do the other job, which is naming the place.

Q11: What should we name our lake house?

The names that last usually come from the place rather than from a list. A family surname with Getaway, Camp, Lodge, Landing, Point, Cove or Retreat after it. The lake name on its own. A feature of the shoreline, a bend, a stand of pines, the way the light comes across the water in the evening. An inside joke that stuck years ago and never went away. If you are stuck, write down what your family already calls it out loud when nobody is being formal. That is usually the name already.

What is the best material for an outdoor lake house sign?

The best outdoor lake house signs are made from 6mm DIBOND aluminum composite, a commercial grade panel with aluminum skins bonded to a solid polymer core. DIBOND does not rust, warp, or splinter, which makes it far more durable than the routed wood traditionally used for cabin and lake signs. Tailor Made Rooms uses DIBOND for all outdoor sign production because it handles years of UV exposure, frost, snow, and lake spray without fading or structural failure.
